Bockoven’s Visit to Mountain Views RV Resort, Creede, Colorado 2025 Season (Chapter 4 – August 2 – 9)

Mountain Views at Rivers Edge – RV Resort & RV Park – Creede, Colorado

We had another unforgettable week in Creede, Colorado with Karl, Parker, and Blake. It’s always a joy when they make the long trek to spend time with us.

This time, we gave the boys a heads-up: sleeping arrangements would be a bit rustic—air mattresses in the pavilion. But in true Mountain Views fashion, our incredible community stepped in. A couple we’d just met, who own a Coach retreat across from us, generously offered their space for the boys to sleep. It’s moments like these that remind us why we chose Mountain Views RV Resort —the people here are simply amazing.

Our friends in the park know Parker and Blake well and are always excited to see them.  The evening they arrived a neighbor was hosting a 64th birthday party. When we mentioned the boys would be arriving around the same time, the hostess didn’t hesitate — “Bring them!” she said.

Sunday was a laid-back day. We borrowed a neighbor’s Honda Talon 4-seater SxS and paired it with our 2-seater for a scenic ride through Bachelor’s Loop, up Ladders Trail, and down Rat Creek Trail. Parker and Blake rode in the 2-seater, while Karl, Karen, and Bill took the 4-seater. Afterward, we stopped at Old Miner’s Inn for the boys’ favorite hand-tossed pizzas—always a hit Old Miners Inn – Creede, CO | Hand-Tossed Pizza, Fresh Toppings.

We brainstormed activities for the week, but rafting was off the table. The San Juan River in Pagaso Springs was too low.   In May, the Rio Grande—was too high and rough—now it too was barely flowing. Timing is everything in Creede! So, the boys opted for horseback trail riding, which we booked through Cottonwood Cove Guest Ranch Cottonwood Cove Guest Ranch | Rio Grande Cabins & RV Park. Parker rode Comanche, Blake rode Little Joe, and while they explored the trails, Karl treated Karen to breakfast at MJ’s Café MJ’s Cafe.

Monday and Thursday nights are game nights at the Elk’s Lodge in the Park—poker for the men, Mexican Train for the ladies. Parker joined the poker table again this year, and Blake jumped into Mexican Train with the women. He picked up the rules quickly and kept everyone laughing. At one point, he asked for a break to dash over to the Bear Lodge for ice cream before they closed.

Between family group outings, the boys fished in the park’s stocked pond, took solo SxS rides, and played games with us—one of our favorite pastimes. They taught us a new card game, Kings in the Corner, and we had some competitive rounds of Rummikub. Blake’s a fierce player!

We finally tried Rail Biking in South Fork—something we’d heard great things about Colorado Rail Biking — Revolution Rail Co. The granddaughters weren’t interested when we suggested it to them on one of their visits, but the boys were game. We booked a quad car for four (Bill opted out) and arrived early enough for Parker and Blake to squeeze in a corn hole match. The ride was a blast, and we’re already talking about doing a longer run next time.

One evening, we joined the Jenkins for their annual outdoor concert celebrating Laura’s birthday. Bob, a talented songwriter and musician, brings together local artists for a park-wide event.

Another peaceful day was spent at Love Lake. Parker and Blake drove the SxS while we followed in the truck with Gabby and Mayah, our toy dogs. We had the lake to ourselves, and Mayah had a blast exploring off-leash—ending up muddy from head to toe! She rode home on the floorboard until Karen could give her a much-needed bath.

We also managed a group ride to American Basin near Lake City. Timing the wildflowers is tricky, but even though they were fading, the scenery was breathtaking. With only a 2-seater SxS and five of us, we relied on the kindness of friends. The Peils’, who know the boys well, offered to take them in their 4-seater. Karen rode with another couple, while Bill and Karl took our 2-seater. The boys said it was one of their favorite rides—streams, mountains, and good company.

Friday night is Bingo at the Elk’s Lodge ─ Elk’s Lodge, different from the one in the Park—members and their guests only. With Bill as a member, we joined in. Fried chicken was served as a surprise dinner, and although none of us won, it was a fun way to wrap up the week.

Before we knew it, Sunday arrived and it was time for the boys to head home. Parker starts his senior year this fall, and we know it’ll be a big, exciting chapter for him.

We’re grateful for these shared moments—laughter, adventure, and the kind of memories that stick.
